The Proteens were, like many people, devastated by the news of MF Doom's death. Given that the iconic hip-hop artist's music provided the soundtrack to their youth, they decided to pay tribute in the only way they knew how: by recording an album of covers of his cuts. This tidy seven-inch single provides a taster of that forthcoming set. On side the Melbourne band gives its take on early favourite 'Peachfuzz', re-imagining it as a lo-fi cinematic soul special full of fuzzy beats, distorted bass, horizontal surf guitar and languid marimba solos. Over on the flip they present their version of MM...FOOD number 'One Beer', delivering a pleasingly laidback take that's even more widescreen, cinematic and 1960s in feel.
