A really wonderful collection that's easily one of the most compelling in Numero's Eccentric Soul series! The work here all hails from the tiny San Antonio scene of the late 60s – but much of the music has a sound that's way different than you might expect from Texas soul – often with great harmonies that recall the best of the east coast groups of the time, and occasionally with a few brown-eyed touches that echo the style of East LA!

More other worldly, ethereal sounds from 1970s Addis Ababa. This fantastic compilation pulls together some of the more blatantly groove orientated sides recorded in the glory days of modern Ethiopian music. The maestro Mulatu has his stamp over much of the material, either as artist, producer or just through his heavy influence on the surrounding musicians and if you have heard his sound, it's pretty impossible not to be a fan! Highlights include the monstrous 'Musicawa Silt' by the Walias band, as covered a few years ago on the classic Daktaris LP on Desco. It's also worth mentioning that getting hold of this material on vinyl is a true joy - try finding anything on here on the original Ethiopian 45s: infact, take my advice and forget about it, it ain't happening! Either way, if you are going to try, you will need something to listen to on that long, long wait, and this well packaged and mastered comp should do the trick nicely.

The second part to the best selling Nigeria Special album released in 2007 and further extends the look at the most exciting period in Nigeria’s recording history. The range of styles vary from highlife to Juju and Nigerian blues in the languages of Yoruba, Igbo, Bini and Ijaw. With a peppering of ‘afro’ experimentation the same musical stew pervades volume 2 as it’s predecessor – some artists appear again alongside some new artists as the emphasis continues to focus on the laid back and mid tempo feel found on volume 1. The triple LP comes with two exclusive bonus tracks, available only on vinyl.

If you thought Norway (population under 5m) would be a cold and unwelcoming environment for good music, you'd be wrong, it's always had a reputation for its enthusiastic embrace of all musical cultures, and none more so than that put forward by Club 7 in Oslo and the broadcaster NRK. Together they're responsible for the funk, jazz and soul recordings in this album, all recorded from the '60s and '70s.

There's a long legacy of quality jazz in Europe, and it's only recently that it's become to be appreciated for what it is. Much of it stands up to and even supersedes its American equivalent, and that's not just because so much Euro jazz came from ex-pat Americans, disillusioned and unappreciated by the music scene in the States. This album sets the record straight as far as Danish jazz is concerned, with music from the Jazz Quintet 60, Sahib Shihab, Pedro Biker, Erik Moseholm, Bent Jaedig and others. A collection of the gooviest and rarest Danish jazz from the '60s, compiled by Anders-Peter Andreasen of Povo.

Secret Stash Records and Fantasy Productions have teamed up to bring you the definitive Porno Groove collection. Fantasy (not to be confused with the infamous Fantasy Records) was allegedly one of the top producers of adult entertainment throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. When Sal Rosen, allegedly the company’s founder and CEO passed away in 1985, much of its intellectual property was tied up in legal battles. Apparently, Rosen’s eldest son, Mort secured control of his father’s work. To date Mort Rosen has not reissued any of the supposed Fantasy catalog. In an effort to preserve the value of the content, he has made a conscious effort to remove all of their products from the market place to “starve the market.” He is even said to have shut down Fantasyproductions.com recently while a new branding and web presence strategy are being devised. In the fall of 2008, he supposedly discovered a massive collection of original soundtrack master tapes for the company’s biggest films. Along with popular themes and timeless classics, it's also alleged that he discovered 30 reels of never before released music. Porno Groove: The Sound of 70s Adult Films is a collection of music from Fantasy’s so-called "deep soundtrack library".

Superb double LP gatefold package showcasing some latino & cumbia flavours from South America. Chicha started out in the late 60’s, in the oil-boom cities of the Peruvian Amazon. Cumbias Amazonicas, as they were first known, were loosely inspired by Colombian cumbias but incorporated the distinctive pentatonic scales of Andean melodies, some Cuban guajiras, and the psychedelic sounds of surf guitars, wah-wah pedals, farfisa organs and moog synthesizers. It quickly became the music of choice of the mostly indigenous new migrant population – mixing even further with rock, Andean folklore and Peruvian creole music. Chicha is at once raw and sophisticated - and until now, it had never been released outside of Peru. Lovely double LP with 20 page full colour booklet!!!

"In the 1960s and '70s hundreds of teenage funk & soul bands across the USA independently recorded and released their music. Most of them achieved only local success with their recordings, almost none of them ever made it onto the charts. This meant small runs of funk 45s which have since become highly sought after, hard to find and super collectable.
One of those many bands were the Soul Bros. Inc. out of Houston, Texas. They were likely one of the most important funk/soul groups in the city in the late 1960s until they broke up in the mid '70s. They were part of a much wider movement of African American protest via music in the era of civil rights. I had the pleasure of spending hours on the phone talking to Henry Boatwright. Boatwright played flute, saxophone and sang on many songs as well as composing many of the releases for the band's own S.B.I. Records label. (S.B.I. stands for Soul Brothers Inc.) Now it's time for me to pass on the world of Mr. Boatwright. He is eager to share the story of the Soul Bros. Inc. with you and in doing so hopes to preserve their legacy for generations to come. Soundtrack to cult British pagan thriller and oddball folk masterpiece! This is an essential release for soundtrack collectors, Wicker Man fans, and folk-aficionados alike. One of the most hauntingly idiosyncratic OSTs you’re ever likely to hear, here is a stunning collection of sibylline psalms, eerily orphic fables and sinister, delphian ballads. Images of dusky summer evenings, ribbon-decked maypoles and naked, porcelain-skinned babes frolicking ‘round phallic totems are order of the day here. A truly beguiling blend of halcyon acid-folk sounds and sinister lullabies - this is deeply evocative stuff, and highly recommended.
