Soul On Fire
Availability: Out of stock
Ms Baker’s Hey Memphis is a firm favourite around these parts but while that showed off her uptempo, lusty side, Soul On Fire is a different beast. Recorded in 1953, it was her first cut for Atlantic and burns slow and hard – you can imagine the neckties being loosened, brows being mopped and ice chinking in the glass. The flip sees her in a more high-kicking, growling mood -- accompanied by a stinging guitar part, insistent rhythm section and parping sax solo.
