A rather languid rhythm is lifted considerably by Jessie Knight’s
gravel-voiced, brash vocal on “Nothing But Money”, an obscure Checker
side from Ike Turner’s regular bassman through the ‘50s. Memphis
Minnie’s “Me and My Chauffer”, meanwhile, is one of the most sought
after down home sides on the Checker label, a foot stomping, head
swaying killer with the enigmatic harmonica maestro Little Walter part
of the backing line-up.
